Bridal Shower Outfits Guide for Brides to Be

On many occasions, brides to be have stressed to me that they don’t know what to wear to their shower, even though the shower is a week away. The bride puts so much thought on her outfit for the day of her wedding, but when it comes to the wedding shower it’s usually forgotten about until the week before. Many brides go to the mall last minute trying to find the perfect outfit, but end up settling for something they don’t love or even like. When it comes to planning anything for the wedding, it’s important to be cohesive and strict when it comes to scheduling.

Looking for an outfit takes time, and many brides just don’t have time to spare. Good news is that sometimes the perfect outfit can be in your closet! The bride can really feel the pressure, especially when all eyes will be on her! I believe picking the outfit earlier is better than waiting last minute so it can cause less stress. Personally, I would suggest doing this possibly a month/month in a half before the shower. It’s also important to know what is the theme so that way, you, as a bride, can make sure you dress accordingly. If it is a surprise, rely on your maid of honor, or even mother, to help make sure your outfit does match the theme.

Like I said, sometimes an outfit can be hidden in your closet. Creativity can play a roll – especially when it comes to incorporating the wedding colors. This can be done with accessories such as shoes, jewelry, lipstick or even nail polish. This can be a subtle way to play along with the theme itself.

With so many different themes, it can be overwhelming with thinking “what do I wear to a theme like that?” – it’s a very fair question. Below are some outfit ideas that I put together from items that I found in my closet, that can work for just about any theme that have been a super popular trend.

Kate Spade and Parisian Theme

Who doesn’t love the thought of Paris or Kate Spade. Usually these types of showers have pops of pinks, especially hot pink, black and white stripes and polka dots and of course a lot of glitz and glam. For these themes keep feminine and bold in mind. I decided to wear a tea cup all lace dress. To make this outfit really pop, I decided to wear hot pink heels sandals with bows right in the front. To make it more Parisian or Kate Spade inspired, have fun playing with jewelry. If Parisian theme, channel your inner Chanel with layers of pearl necklaces. If Kate Spade, add a hot pink lip and some glamorous statement earrings.

Glam, Tea Party and Champagne Brunch Theme

Glamorous with a touch of vintage, pale colors and a lot of florals – that’s personally what comes to my mind when I think about what a bride can wear to a wedding shower that falls under these themes. I would suggest a cocktail style dress, nothing too long, as usually these are more within the late morning, early afternoon. For these themes, I decided to wear a floral lace all over applique dress. I wanted to add a touch of vintage looking glam by using my favorite blush pale pink satin peep toes. I decided to add a statement necklace to add a little more glam but still keep it at a vintage feel with the bronze finish.

Boho, Rustic, Vintage and Shabby Chic Theme

For these themes I think it’s all about having an effortless look to you. Think sabout something that you would find from your grandmother or great grandmother’s closet from when she was about your age. Channel your inner Anthropology or Madewell. To give it that true boho and vintage feel I decided to wear a long ivory white dress drizzled in pearls and beads and beige classic strappy sandal heels. This dress is more on the loose side, giving it that effortless feel. Flower crowns are always welcomed with these themes!

Ladies Night Theme

Time to paint the town red – or white in this case. Skirts, dresses and even pants are welcome. To give it a true bold and effortless look, why not wear pants. It’s such a beautiful modern twist, embrace your inner New Yorker – think Soho. I decided to go that route and use white pants and tuck my white lace cami top to give it a bit of an edge and put together feel. To give it the ultimate feminine touch I paired it with Chanel inspired heels. This outfit has a modern edge to it and comfortable for all night!

Nautical and Backyard Bliss Theme

A backyard theme has a more homey and intimate feeling, so you might not want to dress too formal. Same with nautical, it can be one of those themes where you can dress up more, but think more pier, so maybe swap those heels for wedges. I would recommend keeping it simple. I decided to create this look with a white pencil skirt, a feminine chic white shirt, and paired it with some linen styled red wedges to have a fun pop of color within the outfit.

Formal, Black Tie and Classic Romantic Theme

Formals and black ties are really the same when it comes to the women’s attire. When it comes to formal and black ties, a bride to be should have fun with this. Think long gowns. Since you will be the center of attention, why not go with something with color or sparkles? To keep the romantic theme, maybe go with suave colors and not necessarily something so bold. To keep it formal with a classic romantic twist, I chose a beige colored gown covered in lace that has subtle touches of sparkle. The back is definitely the wow factor. Instead of having an open back, it is filled with embellishments, which I love because it’s something not only unique but keeping it modest.

PJ Party Theme

No one is ever too old for a PJ party! It just brings the fun out of us all and brings us back to those slumber parties from back in the day. You cannot go wrong with color, patterns, silk or cotton. I would just recommend to have the top match the bottoms, just to keep it put together. Why not accessorize with fun slippers? With this, I decided to have fun and use a white patterened cotton PJ set from Victoria’s Secret and underneath used a tank from the bridal PJ section. To keep the merriment going, I added my Victoria’s Secret fluffy slippers as an accessory!

Breakfast at Tiffany & Co Theme

Who doesn’t just love a Breakfast at Tiffany’s party? Any girl would just love to channel their inner Audrey Hepburn, but sometimes it’s a little hard to add your own twist to it. Again, I think this is something that could be found in the back of our closet. First, it’s just starting with the basics, a little black dress. Every girl should have some kind of little black dress, why not pull it out and flaunt it. I wore my blue colored heels with a touch of sparkle, to keep the Tiffany and Co theme going. If you do not have blue shoes, why not a black statement heel? Accessorize with pearls, even if you borrow from your mother or grandmother, just for the event. I personally am not much of a crown kind of girl, so I put a modern twist, and just put some sparkly hairpins in my hair.

Country Chic Theme

For all the southern belles, or southern belles at heart, a country chic theme would be a perfect theme for your wedding shower. However, sometimes this might be a tricky one, trying not to be too cliché when it comes to styling. Feel free to throw on any cowgirl hats or boots. If you do not own any boots to show off your country side, good news, there are different ways to become the southern belle you truly are. I went into my closet and pulled out my red plaid flannel and paired it with a white skirt, to keep the bridal aspect of it. To keep the chic going, I decided to pair my look with my beige Dior dupes, and a paved statement necklace.

Luau Theme, Beach Bonanza

If your shower is in the summer, why not go with a beach bonanza theme or even a luau themed. Who doesn’t love to have fun in the sun? This might seem like another tricky theme, but why not keep it simple. Think white linens, pastel colors and of course florals and possibly a little bit of color, I am mean beach and tropical do go hand in hand with color. I picked out this light pink floral summer dress. To keep it effortless, I added a statement sandal. To keep it a little glamorous, I added a statement earring in the mix.
